MEN'S SYMMETRY II JACKET
Great jacket... warm enough on those cooler days.
Protection on those nasty raw, rainy days.
Like the fleece on the cuffs.
I guess the only downside, a small is just that, small.
Probably size up if you want to wear more than 1 long sleeved tech shirt.
Fantastic light jacket for many seasons
I have used this jacket almost daily for 3-4 years; mostly used for 45-60 mins dog walks. Extremely pleased with the performance as it is tremendous at wind protection. It will stay dry in a light drizzle or short rain, but will soak thru in a prolonged rain. It is reasonably breathable, but moisture will build up on the inside of the outer shell in heavy use, however the mesh lining works well as an extra layer to prevent you from feeling the moisture. The hood is very light but is worth its weight in gold. I use this jacket for about 7 months in Canada. In warmer temps in spring and fall I find the lower arms don’t breathe as well as the rest of the jacket with the different liner material. However, I appreciate the micro-fleece cuff on the wrists in colder months. Love the Velcro cuffs. I wear this shell over several other layers in winter ( to - 25 Celsius) , and it works great (sheds snow wonderfully). I appreciate the hi-vis reflective piping for night walking. Very durable material for a light jacket. Washes easily. Overall a very versatile and functional jacket.
Engineered for bad weather
This jacket works. First day I wore it was a steady wind of 10-15 mph. Gusts of up to 30. 48 degrees and cloudy.
The wind was no issue. The jacket is designed to allow you to “batten down” and tighten up sleeves and collar.
Or if it’s warmer you simply loosen up.
As always, Sporthill thinks of the runners needs.
Zip pockets.
Warm fleece flashing inside the cuffs.
Velcro where needed.
Inside pocket.
Great jacket.
Nice jacket
I really like the jacket. Unfortunately, I ordered an extra large size. The jacket is quite "roomy". I like the zippered pockets.
Neat Jacket
I like the fit, wind break, cloth cuffs, wrist closures, etc. The only request I would make is to enlarge the inside pocket just a bit so the cell phones are easier to insert and zip up.
very useful jacket
I am using the jacket for nordic skiing in windy conditions between 0 and 30 degrees. Despite its lightness, it really has great windblocking effect, yet is breathable and doesn't restrict movement. The hood shape and storage are not quite as strong features, but a great overall product.
Follow up review
I wrote a prior review of this jacket with the headline of "Cut Too Small". I sent it back to Sporthill and they replaced it with the next size up, so I thought it only fair to review the new, properly fitting jacket. I wore it today on a 4 1/2 mile run in a 33 degree light rain and light wind and the jacket performed excellently. It's well ventilated along the back and unlike some other "rain" jackets which leave you clammy inside, the inner mesh of this jacket creates a barrier between any un-evaporated moisture and you. It's also a very substantial feeling jacket without being heavy. I wore it with a Sporthill Dash top and thin sleeveless velour vest and was quite comfortable during my run without being overheated. I might even try it next time with just the Dash top.
Cut too small
I own a number of other Sporthill tops (and four or five different model pants over the years) and have loved them all. But will I be returning this jacket. I always wear the Small in tops , but this is cut way too tight and close. Perhaps I could stand to lose a few pounds around my waist but it was even tighter and closer cut around my chest, I wouldn't be able move my arms comfortably while running. Never had this problem with a Sporthill top before. It does seem well made with protection from wind and cold, with a nice inner mesh to aid evaporation, but I didn't and won't get to try it out.
Versatile Jacket
The Symmetry II, which I think regressed compared to the original Symmetry, accommodates rain, wind, and snow. I like how there are 3 zippered pockets, one on the inside of the jacket. I don't like the hard texture of the outside material, the oddly shaped hood and its tightening mechanism, and the non-breathable lower-sleeve interior. The jacket has a lot of features, but I think they need more focus.
Great Jacket
I have done two runs in this, both cold weather. First a wind chill of 13* other was 16*. I was surprised at how warm it was for both runs, and how well it blocked the wind (14 mph). I have had very good luck with SportHill products. One running top I have from SportHill has lasted 14 years and is still going strong. Hoping that this jacket does as well. I bought it for the water resistance, but it has worked out well for cold weather too. Very highly recommend it.
