They serve their purpose, but I wish they were better
I bought these for cold weather running in Minnesota. They are not warm enough to wear on their own, but a base layer of leggings they're OK. I bought a large because I wear leggings underneath but they're still too big (I didn't bother to return because it's wearable for me). I have a pair of this exact kind from about eight years ago that are made from a warmer material and can be worn on their own, so something definitely changed with the material. I'm 5'5" 145 lbs, and a medium would have worked better for me. Despite keeping them and running in them, I'm still searching for a decent pair of winter running pants.
Ill Fitting
I do not find these pants to fit well. The top fits well but the legs are too big width wise compared to top. They are way too long even though I have a 32" length leg. I ordered a size Large.
The fabric is as promised as I have a different pair of Sporthill pants (I thought the size was mismarked) that are a bit long but are warm and comfortable in cold temps.
I will be returning.
Sporthill went down the hill - a demise of the great label is imminent
I own about a dozen of Sporthill pants, tights and tops in level 2 and level 3 warmth bought back in 2009-2011 and they are still absolutely awesome, even though I practically lived in Sporthill for the past decade. But I gained weight and needed to rebuy everything in the new size. Well, the quality, functionality, fit and style are no longer there. After 3 purchases in 2020, I will be looking for another brand. A decade ago Sporthill was so great that anywhere I went, everybody was asking me where I got my clothes. Firstly, the fabric - it used to be very high quality, flexible, pleasant to touch, stretching to accommodate all kind of sports, wash really well without piling, retain color, look and functionality. The cuts and colors were very flattering too. It was fashionable sports clothes...These pants are absolutely not comfortable to wear, the fabric is stiff, dry, unpleasant to skin, zippers cause leg irritation resulting from shaffing, pill, and the cuts are really ugly. I bought cross-country pants, tights and a tops in 2020 models - they will rob you of the joy of being outside and thrive in the chosen sport. If you like me enjoyed earlier models, you will be very disappointed. I am an MBA and it is clear for me that the brand will not survive. It might be even too late to save it because the existing customers have been let down and a new ones will see better choices in the competition. Never thought that it would come to this.
Warm and comfy, they fit me great
This is my second pair of Callaghan pants. The first ones go XC skiing with me most weekends. These will too. They fit very well, and I like the lower rise waist. They are warm and non-absorbent for misty days. The fabric does not seem to bag or sag.
Wanted to love them....
I wanted to love these pants but realized that comfort fit style pants are not meant for my mature body. If the waist had not been so low, they would have been great. Will only purchase the relaxed, higher waisted pants from Sporthill from now on.
Great for those cold morning runs!
It's like wearing two pairs of pants! Great for temps under 30 degrees both running and XC skiing! I love the thicker fabric, which keeps me warm and and dry. I typically am size 4 and ordered a Small, 5"4" 130lbs, perfect fit!
Really great design, runs BIG!
I love the fabric, the overall design -- especially the pockets ! They do run large -- very baggy in the thighs and waist is loose, I am 5'6', 130 pounds so I am not tiny. I don't think that these pants will slip off, but I am considering buying a size small with the intent of just keeping these for dog and barn chores.
Functional
Great pants for winter outdoor activities. I do wish that it came in colors other than black and that the material were more waterproof and less cotton like.
Editor's note: 3SP fabric is as far from cotton for a knit fabric that one can get. 3SP is the fastest drying knit fabric around, cotton is one of the worst drying fabrics and should never be used in cold and or damp weather. We have heard some customers are spraying their garments made of 3sp with Scotch Guard so the water runs off of them easier. But even without that most users report back that they stay warm during their outside adventures.
was returned & reshipped
The packaging had been opened and re-taped. Once I tried them on, i knew why. The seam on the right side did not lay flat and there was a hole in the pocket on the left side. I liked the way they fit (with the exception of the seam binding) and the warmth of the fabric; so, it was not worth sending them back for me. The seam binding not being symmetrical was the bigger disappointment. It made them look cheaply made. I could fix the pocket hole.
Editors note. Sounds like you received an defective pair. Give us a call and we will make arrangements with you for an replacement garment.
Great pants
Thought these might be too warm for my dog walking in the Pacific Northwest. They are not. They keep me warm but not sweaty and don't need my rain paints as often.
